As a Latinx WoC, “Belonging” can be difficult to find, especially in tech. I love working at Modern Health because I feel safe and appreciated for being who I am.

Our DEIB mission statement

At Modern Health, we strive to foster an intentional and compassionate environment where everyone can be the most authentic version of themselves. Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are at the forefront of our efforts to help individuals succeed in both their personal and professional lives. By prioritizing community, education, and accountability, we are creating the foundation for an equitable environment where everyone can thrive.

Transforming beliefs
into actions

We believe inclusion is a shared responsibility, so we equip our employees and providers with the tools to help each other succeed. Our team participates in regular trainings with DEIB leaders on topics such as allyship, anti-racism, and unconscious bias. These educational opportunities are critical to our vision of creating lasting change, because when everyone has the opportunity to unlearn and relearn together as a community, we are empowered to hold one
another accountable.

Spaces at Modern Health

Cognizant of the history and legacy of violence against BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, we have been working to provide space for those who have been historically underserved with mental health support.
I feel so fortunate to be a member of Modern Melanin and Mi Gente. As an ally, the community aspect is very meaningful to me as I look to build relationships with other people at the company. Each meeting surprises me in such a beautiful way, whether it is the new initiatives we are taking on, someone’s ability to open up and be vulnerable to the group, or a collective laugh from a funky childhood tradition. These moments push work relationships past the superficial level, and for me, that is so important to a healthy company culture.

Externally

In June 2020, we launched a series of online Black Lives Matter Healing Circles led by Modern Health providers—to provide an ongoing space for grief, healing, and joy among Black communities and to bolster anti-racism efforts among allies. These circles are free and open to the public, and have since expanded to include support for our Black providers, Black men, and for the Queer, Latinx, and Asian communities.

Internally

Internally, the members of our Black and Latinx community have taken space with their allies and created Employee Resource Groups Modern Melanin and Mi Gente. We believe that ERGs are a community effort and should be established organically by those who represent the community they provide a brave space for. We look forward to more ERGs to come.

Belonging on the Modern Health team

We recognize disparities in representation and we commit to changing them by setting specific goals around hiring, employee development, and individual well-being. We offer a suite of benefits aimed at attracting diverse talent and ensuring every employee feels supported and equipped to succeed.

Access to mental health care

We practice what we preach and offer coaching, therapy, digital wellness tools, and group support sessions to all Modern Health employees
and their dependents.

Flexible PTO and paid parental leave

We know that feeling rested is an integral part of mental well-being at work. We also offer generous parental leave regardless of the path you take to parenthood.

Volunteer days off and donation matching

We encourage team members to donate their skills and time in their communities, and we match donations to causes several times a year.

Conference stipend

We encourage employees to improve their skills in their chosen field and to network with peers, so we offer an annual conference attendance stipend to
the entire team.

Fertility benefit

We celebrate all parenting journeys by offering Carrot to all eligible employees, regardless of age, race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and geography.

CSYOU

We’re a founding partner in CSYOU—a program designed to train and place underrepresented individuals in customer success roles at Modern Health and elsewhere.

Culturally centered care

It's critical that Modern Health members find trustworthy care professionals with whom they feel comfortable, so personalized care matching and culturally centered care are at the core of our services.

Personalized matching

Modern Health members can request a care provider of a certain race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or other characteristic. We work hard to find the best possible fit for their preferences.

Our diverse provider network

Maintaining a diverse network of coaches and therapists has been a top priority for us from the beginning. We’ve vetted a network of high-quality providers in 35+ countries who
work in 30+ languages.

Culturally centered care

We offer regular trainings to hone culturally centered care among providers, and case consultations and peer support help providers whose clients face challenging circumstances like systemic racism.
